Thinking About the Fathers

The evening of Sr. Mary Magdalene's Profession Dr. John Cavadini, Associate Professor of Theology and Director of the Institute for Church Life at Notre Dame, IN arrived for a weekend of lectures with us.

We have been trying to get Dr. Cavadini to come for lectures for nearly 3 years but one thing or another got in the way! We were thrilled to have Dr. Cavadini with us and benefited greatly from his insights as he led us through texts such as the account of St. Scholastica in St. Gregory the Great's Life and Miracles of St. Benedict, the places where St. Augustine talks about his mother, St. Monica in the Confessions and finally the Life of St. Macrina by her brother, St. Gregory of Nyssa.

Our Sr. Maria Agnes has been corresponding with Dr. Cavadini for years and so finally they got to meet. Yes, Dr. Cavadini is tall!

In 2008, Dr. Cavadini was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to the International Theological Commission and was also made a member of the Equestrian Order of St. Gregory the Great.
